I’m back from my ‘holiday’ to Africa.  I had intended to use this trip to research for a character for my next book.  I was excited about the prospect of meeting someone that was so different than me.  I met many people in South Africa and Swaziland that inspired me; men, women, and children so spirited and passionate about life.   Now, I don’t want to write about any of them.  I don’t think I could use any of the individuals I personally interacted with in a story.  I couldn’t possibly do them justice.  Two weeks spent in a country can give you a knowledge base to create a story setting, but I didn’t learn enough about the day to day life of any of the people living there to be able to portray them accurately in a story, unfortunately.  I wish I had.

I have plans for the amazing landscape in a future novel and I hope I can return one day to South Africa, Swaziland, or one of the other beautiful countries in Africa to live for a while and learn more about another culture.  For now, I’ll stick with the world around me for character inspiration, there’s more than enough here to keep me laughing and inspired for a lifetime of novels.

Keep on writing!!
